Story behind the painting
Warning - contains spoilers for those who have not read the books or watched the show
This painting has quite a few subtle meanings. Firstly, the white hare represents Claire as what I interpreted to be her spirit animal. According to spirit-animals.com, if you have a rabbit as your spirit animal then "You are often unpredictable and spontaneous, have fast reflexes and good coordination, are highly observational and alert, gentle and nurturing as well as clever and quick-witted. Rabbit people are quick to succeed and are highly skilled at success not only in their own lives but in advising those around them. You can instinctively sense what paths lead to danger, and which to success." which I correlate quite a bit to Claire's spirit and life history from what I've read and seen in the show so far (currently on book 5). As for the forget-me-not flowers in between the stones, they represent the standing stones and Claire leaping to the past to get back to Jamie and the life she had with him before she was forced to leave him. If you remember in the very beginning of the story before meeting Jamie, she was first taken to the 1700s by going back to collect branches of a the rare (and symbolic) forget-me-nots she spotted. The shimmering gold paint represents the magic surrounding the standing stones. It's all just a little tribute to their beautiful and loving story.
