A bear and a bee may seem like an unlikely friendship but once you have heard their story I'm sure you will agree that there are no two finer friends. The summer had been long and the last of the dusty evenings had faded. A cool mist now filled the woodland and the old bear had begun to yawn, his throat kissed by the sting of cold. He knew it was time so he released a deep and ancient roar that travelled from the woodlands edge and out into the distant land. A bee out foraging the last meager pickings of pollen felt his wings tickle. He had come to know the bears call well so off he flew over fields of corn stuble, avoiding the first falling leaves. Appearing from within a cloud of dandelion wishes the bee arrived before the bear. They exchanged greetings like all old friends do and took one last look over the deepening land before turning into the silence of the towering wood. Within a cave touched by stars and hugged by mossy rocks the bear and the bee slept. The bees tiny body finding shelter and warmth within the tangles of the bears fur. Upon his stirrings in these fairytale hours the bear is nourished by the gift of golden honey that the bee carries in his soul. For all creatures, no matter how different, need one another to survive. It is the harmony of nature that has always been. Sleep will take them until the lilac mornings finally arrive and the thrush sounds his waking call atop the dreaming cave....
